Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, commonly referred to as PTSD, is characterized by the failure to recover after witnessing or experiencing a traumatic event. PTSD may last for months or years, with triggers that can bring back memories of the trauma along with psychological and/or physical reactions.
Symptoms:
- Agitation
- Self-destructive behavior and social isolation
- Loss of interest
- Guilt
- Insomnia or nightmares
- Flashbacks, fear, or severe anxiety
- Avoiding events, places, or objects that are reminders of the traumatic experience
